Alice Chase Gage Portrait
This portrait of Alice Chase Gage (1865-1940) in her wedding dress was a gift to her from her artist friend, Frederick Sumner Pratt, also of Worcester. Born into a prominent family, Gage saw her father, Charles A. Chase, become president of the Worcester County Institution for Savings in 1904. Six years earlier she had married Thomas Hovey Gage, a lawyer with a successful practice in the city. For many years Alice Gage was a director of Worcester Society of District Nursing and an officer of the Worcester Girl Scouts Council and the Worcester Natural History Society. Her funeral was at the family residence, 39 West Street, where her wedding had taken place forty-two years earlier.
